When it comes to smoking pot and growing pot, newbies get nervous about which type of medication is right for them. And, let’s be honest, there are a LOT of choices. Let’s start with the basics and break down the differences between Sativa, Indica and Hybrid and some helpful tips for choosing the right strain.
Creativity is the word that comes to mind when you think of a sativa strain. You will experience intense uplifting feelings with a cerebral head high. Sativa’s are great for mornings and a day time smoke session! If you feel like getting creative or going to a party or social gathering – this is the strain for you. Medically, a sativa strain is great for treating depression. However, if you are in any way anxious or fear that smoking will make you paranoid, I would stay away from any sativa dominant strain. My personal favorite sativa strains are White Shark and Green Crack.
A heavy body buzz and pain relief come to mind when you think of a heavy Indica strain. I always make the joke that an indica has got you “In Da Couch”. Indica stains are a fan favourite for night time use and chilling on the couch watching Netflix. Medically, it is used by people with chronic pain as a pain management tool. Also, it’s very popular with insomniacs to help with sleep. My personal favorite Indicas are Super Kush and Pink Kush.
Hybrids have both Sativa and Indica elements. Depending on the combinations of strains, they will lean more toward one type. Sativa dominate hybrids you get a cerebral high with a relaxing body effect, providing both physical and mental relaxation. Indica dominate hybrids are packed with a full body pain relief with a smoothing head high, great for night time use. My personal favorite hybrids are Rockstar (indica dominate) and Cheese (sativa dominate). Just as a side note: it is rare today to find a pure sativa strain or a pure indica strain. Most marijuana that you come across today will be a hybrid…the question is – do you prefer an indica or a sativa dominant?
