The Benefits of Cannabis in Muay Thai & Kickboxing
Written By: Bud Flowers
Concussions are a harsh reality for people who compete in Muay Thai & Kickboxing. Many boxers have come out publicly stating that they have experienced the benefits of CBD therapy. The cannabinoid CBD has been shown to help fight Post-Concussion Syndrome (PCS) because of its anti-inflammatory properties.
The benefits of cannabis as a healing agent for kick boxers has not received widespread understanding and acceptance. This might be attributed to a lack of scientific data. More boxers need to educate themselves on the benefits of cannabis for the body and mind. If they do, they can begin to heal and potentially prevent brain injuries.
Post-Concussion Syndrome (PCS)
There are a host of symptoms associated with concussions after they occur which include:
- Loss of concentration/memory
- Noise and light sensitivity
You may suffer some or all of these symptoms after an acute brain injury. Long term effects from brain injury can lead to depression. Boxers who suffer from chronic brain injuries are 3 times more likely to commit suicide. Why is no one recommending CBD as a viable treatment for concussions?
CBD is a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis. It has a variety of healing qualities that are just now being discovered. CBD treatment can reduce inflammation in the body and brain. Joe Valtellini, a famous kickboxer from Toronto is an advocate for CBD use among fighters.
Joe began to experience the negative effects of a career spent getting punched in the head after he retired. His list of symptoms included headaches, sensitivity to light, depressing thoughts, and back pain. Valtellini was prescribed 6 Percocet and 2 muscle relaxants a day. Joe immediately discarded the pharmaceutical drugs he was taking almost immediately after beginning CBD therapy.
Thanks to CBD therapy, many of the acute and chronic effects Joe suffered from have almost all disappeared. He can now enjoy a new career as a kickboxing analyst with Glory Kickboxing while coaching his fighters. Listen to him describe the benefits he enjoys from CBD therapy during his guest appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZkTUeCseAo.
Brain trauma and stress represent a harsh reality of playing contact sports. You need to educate yourself on the various compounds found in a cannabis plant. Each one has positive effects on both your body and mind. CBD is just one of 8 known compounds that is demonstrating to improve the quality of life for its users.
